Your Rights Under the Contract
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE CONTRACT! Through collective bargaining, the Union has won a contract containing many workplace rights.  But those rights are only as effective as our knowledge and ability to enforce them.  Below are some highlights of your rights under the Contract.  Make sure to read the full Contract to see all of the rights it contains.
Weingarten Rights
Employees are entitled to have a Union representative present during an investigatory interview that may lead to discipline. Management has no obligation to inform you of this right. It is up to you to assert your right to Union representation.
Union Rights
It is Your Right to Join the Union! Under the state labor law known as HEERA (Higher Education Employer Relations Act), employees are guaranteed the rights to join and participate in an employee organization and to engage in collective bargaining regarding terms and conditions of employment.
Just Cause
What is “Just Cause?” The Contract provides that non-probationary employees may only be terminated for “just cause.”  While every case is different, some of the principles of just cause are: 1.     Reasonable Rule or Order The rule or order the employee is charged with violating should be reasonable. 2.
Hours of Work
Hours of Work A work schedule is the normal hours of work for an employee within a work week.  A normal work schedule includes 40 hours within a workweek.  You have the right to rest periods and overtime pay Overtime Overtime is time worked which exceeds the hours of a full-time employee’s daily schedule or exceeds 40 hours in a work week.
